CAPCoD is a program designed to bring together chronic disease researchers from both the developed and developing world to work together in piloting research programs for chronic disease prevention. CAPCoD is the action research arm of the Oxford Health Alliance and is aimed at meeting the alliance’s goals of encouraging collaboration to fight chronic disease, finding evidence of how best to do so and developing global demonstration projects in chronic disease prevention.
As its first action towards this goal, CAPCoD held an intensive
applied-research workshop at the Yale University School of Public
Health from 11-20 May 2005. This inaugural workshop brought together
representatives from 24 research teams to learn about
community-based research design, implementation and securing funding
for chronic disease research. In addition, the teams were urged to
learn from one another’s areas of expertise and develop partnerships
and collaborations to more effectively reach their research goals.
