Monuments and buildings lit up to raise awareness

To celebrate World Diabetes Day, almost 1,000 monuments and buildings will be lit with blue light to represent the blue circle symbol of the Unite for Diabetes campaign. A full list, map, and pictures of many of the monuments can be found on the WDD website (click here >>) – they include the Alamo (US), Al-Fatih Hotel, Khartoum (Sudan), the Dhyanalinga Multireligious Temple, Tamil Nadu (India), and the Basilica de Lujan, Buenos Aires (Argentina).
Among the many other events around the world are:
- Bangladesh: Bangladesh Diabetes Association rally, free diabetes tests, and a drawing competition for children at Dhaka University
- Bulgaria: benefit concert titled ‘Together Against Diabetes’ at Sofia's National Palace of Culture
- Israel: free testing for early diagnosis of diabetes, and advice on how to prevent it, at Tel Aviv's Sourasky Medical Center
- Malaysia: day-long programme of activities, free health examinations, exhibitions and forum organised by Penang Diabetic Society and the state government
- Qatar: Walkathon organised by Aspire Active and the Qatar Diabetes Association
- UK: seminars for health care professionals to discuss Novo Nordisk’s research in diabetes and its involvement in Changing Diabetes (see also blog here >>)
