20 Dec 2005 | Dark chocolate may decrease risk of heart attack
| 20 December 2005

Researchers at the University Hospital in Zurich have found that eating a few squares a day of dark chocolate may help to reduce the risk of heart disease that is caused by smoking.  The research was based on 20 male smokers.  The research concludes that it is the high antioxidant content of dark chocolate that lessens the risk of heart disease.  The British Heart Foundation warned that eating chocolate is not the answer to a healthy heart, as all forms of chocolate are high in calories, and that better ways to avoid heart risk are eating a balanced diet, and stopping smoking.  (BBC News, 20 December 2005)
